What Is Intermittent Fasting?
First of all, I want you to know that intermittent fasting is not a diet to follow, but rather a dieting pattern.
In other words, it’s you skipping meals on purpose and with your own will to maintain your fasting hours as long as you decide. Some people would fast for a minimum of 12 hours to maximum 18 hours a day.
While there are some out there who like to go for extreme intermittent fasting lasting for 20 hours and some to 24 hours!
The 16/8 Intermittent Fasting:
So, basically, as the title suggests that you’re fasting for 16 hours. If you subtract 16 from 24 you’ll get 8 hours, in which you’ll get to eat your healthy meals. In simpler words, you only have an 8-hour window to eat what you want to eat but that doesn’t mean to go for unhealthy options.
Bottom line: You’ll need to skip when you have breakfast and sacrifice your yummy dinner, to fulfill a good and effective weight loss progress.
I’ll give some of the best recommendation for the 16/8 intermittent fasting:
- You can start fasting at 3 pm and start eating at 7 am.
- You can start fasting at 7 pm and start eating at 11 am.
- You can start fasting at 10 pm and start eating at 2 pm.
- You can start fasting at 2 am and start eating at 6 pm.
The 24-Hour Intermittent Fasting:
So, your mission is to go without food or any caloric drink (maybe drink green tea) for 24 hours! Yes, you read that right. So, let’s assume that you ate your last meal or dinner at 8 pm, your next meal be on the following day at 8 pm!
Most importantly is that you do the 24-hour fasting after a day in which you have had all 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
What if you can’t do a 24-hour intermittent fasting?
Don’t be so harsh on yourself, especially when it’s your first time with intermittent fasting. Try going for 18 hours at first without calories. If you succeed several times, then it’s time to go for a 20-hour fast.
Gradually, your body will start to get used to fasting for long hours. Then, it’s time to cheat a day eating all 3 meals, and getting ready for the 24-hour fast!
Overall, the 16/8 pattern and the 24-hour intermittent fasting are the 2 most common with great weight loss effectiveness. Although you can create your own pattern, you can start off with a 12-hour fasting and gradually build your way to 16 hours by adding half an hour every couple of days.
How can you lose more weight with intermittent fasting?
The answer is just one word, WORKOUT! Amazingly, if you add a workout to your daily routine, especially when you’re fasting, you’ll increase your weight loss results!
But, the question that remains is…
How Does Intermittent Fasting Women Work?
So, I believe you’ve already figured it out that by skipping a meal, you’ll consume fewer calories and thus lose weight quicker. You’re absolutely right on this.
Definitely, when you cut out calories for a complete meal every day, you’re consuming fewer calories overall. Also, you’re giving your body a chance to go to your stored fat for energy instead of relying on the breakfast you ate.
Even if you eat 2 meals a day bigger than what you’re used to eating, you’ll lose weight. Just make sure that you eat healthy meals.
In fact, the number of calories varies from one food to another, so you’d better think of calculating the calories in your meal. Furthermore, your body’s reaction to processing the food you eat depends on when you ate it!
Here’s how your body works when doing the intermittent fasting:
When you fast for 16 hours, your body is depending on the fat stores you have for any activity you do to provide you with energy. Then, when it times to eat your meal in the 8-hour window, your body will take a long time to process what you ate.
This is how your body is thanking you for eating after long hours of fasting.
When you fast and go hours without food, you’re making your body available and ready to receive food and digest it properly. Also, your body will use the calories of the meal you to provide your body with energy.
So, with intermittent fasting, you made two amazing things for your body. First of all, you made your body burn stored fat to seek energy for your body when you’re fasting. The second thing is that your body will use the calories from the food you eat when you eat it.
Basically, this means fewer chances of storing fat in your body from what you eat.
With all that said, it’s time for the last question.
Why Should You Start Intermittent Fasting?
There’s a powerful reason why intermittent fasting is the way to go if you want to lose weight. Simply, your body reacts to eating food (energy consumption) by producing insulin. The greater our bodies are sensitive to insulin, the more efficient our bodies burn calories.
By burn calories efficiently, I mean that your body will consume the food you eat properly to serve your body functions.
Your body is more sensitive to insulin after the 16 to 24 hours fasting.
It’ll be smart of you to use your body’s sensitivity to insulin to your advantage and lose weight even quicker by just skipping a meal!
