A lot of people want to lose weight in a week or as fast a time as possible, maybe they have a holiday to go to or a wedding to attend. Maybe they start University in 10 days and haven’t done anything about getting in shape. They will look into purchasing a fat burner, or going on a low carb diet, but do these techniques work?
Well, the answer is that yes they do work, but not within one week! In this article we will look at some of the effective techniques there are for weight loss, but first, we will debunk some of the ridiculous techniques.
Are Weight Loss Drinks Effective?
Depends on what you consider a weight loss drink really. If you’re talking about a meal replacement shake then the answer is that for some people (particularly the very overweight or obese) a meal replacement shake could be the ideal solution. They are simple to follow (something most diets are not), they give control back to the dieter, and they allow you to still eat a regular dinner.
They are not a perfect solution, though, and for many people eating properly (3 meals per day plus snacks) should be the way to go! Other drinks such as whey protein have been proven to help lower body fat, but only when combined with exercise. If you are planning on going on any form of diet then increasing your protein (through whey protein or from high protein foods) is crucial.
Weight loss drinks that are “Detoxes” or laxatives are to be avoided at all costs, they will not help you manage your condition and will only make things worse. The industry is entirely unregulated, and the practice itself is going to be a gateway to an eating disorder for many people.
Are there Foods to eat to lose weight?
Not really, there are foods that can help increase satiety (feeling full) which can help prevent you from overeating. These foods are High protein foods, decaffeinated coffee, eggs, and potatoes (to name a few). High fiber foods are also great for diets. There are no foods that will actively make you lose weight.
Does weight loss hypnosis work?
It seems unlikely, while there may be ways for hypnosis to change habits the act of hypnosis itself will have no effect on weight loss. You yourself need to provide this solution by exercising or lowering your calorie intake, or both. Think about it, whilst you are under hypnosis all you are doing is lying down. Even if it did work, it would be as effective as reading a book on weight loss. You already know what you need to do, so just get out there and do it!
What about walking to lose weight?
This is actually a really good idea, and one of the first weight loss tips that most fitness professionals give out is to increase your step count. Walking one of the best exercises to lose weight as it is so accessible, think about it. If you want to go running you need to buy running shoes, and clothes. If you want to lift weights then you have to join a gym or buy a bunch of equipment for your home. But to start walking all you need to do is put one foot in front of the other.
You might not lose weight fast with walking, but for long-term weight loss, this really is the most effective way to do it (without having to spend money). Once you’ve reached a certain level of fitness you can begin to add running into your week or join a gym.
Are there any Weight Loss Exercises?
All exercises are weight loss exercises, any movement that burns calories can be a weight loss exercise so long as you consume fewer calories than you burn. Obviously, some exercises are more intense than others, and you will burn more calories sprinting 100m than you would walk 50m. So here are 5 of the best fat loss exercises.
- Barbell Squats
- Pull Ups
- Walking Lunges
- High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
Add some weights to the first 4 to really increase the fat-burning potential. Don’t make the mistake of using light weights and short rest periods, as many studies have shown that longer rest periods and heavy weights are much more effective for fat loss.
So … can you lose weight in a week?
At the beginning of this article, we asked the question “Is it possible to lose weight in a week?”. The answer is that yes it is possible, but it is also a terrible idea. The methods you would need to employ would have to be extreme, you would be in a lot of discomforts and any results you did get would swiftly vanish.
You need to change the way you view fat-loss, anyone can lose weight (really) the main job is keeping the weight off for the rest of your life. You are not going to manage that if you try unsustainable things like crash dieting, following detoxes, or trying to find special foods that will magically burn calories.
Start walking more, join a gym, eat healthy high-protein foods, track your calories using a calorie tracking app, and try to cut down on your alcohol intake (if it is too high). Plan ahead for social situations like meals out, birthdays, and holidays, as these are the times where most people put on the most weight.
Do these things and you will lose weight, not in a week, maybe not even in a month, but over the course of several months, you will be able to lower your body fat until you reach your desired size. Then you can spend the rest of your life maintaining this size. It won’t be easy, but it can be enjoyable, satisfying, and will help you live a longer and healthier life. Which is much better than the continued weight rebounds that come from a crash diet, right?
